Window to Deck Project

Once upon a time, our dining room contained this single, small window overlooking the backyard. It was very bothersome to our dog, Lucy (seen covered in drapery below), because she had to watch squirrels from the window and by the time she was let out the side door she had lost track of her nemesis. The other issue was that we needed a place in the backyard for relaxing and entertaining. Hence, the idea of a deck off the dining room was born. First, the window needed to be knocked out and turned into a door. In the picture below, you can see that I have taken off the window's drapes and the new door awaits.

My very trusty and talented father, husband, and uncles set to work.

We splurged and used synthetic wood for the decking. We knew we'd  be in our house for several years to come and would reap the benefits of going this extra mile many times over.

Several days later, here was our final product:

As you can tell, Lucy is very pleased!

Our deck was finished three years ago and we've enjoyed it almost everyday since.
Below are some more recent pictures. You can see that we've since gotten updated windows and have a new table and chair set. There are now surrounding shrubberies, a fountain, and other personal touches.

Thanks for looking!
